He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, as well as past president of the Lexington Medical Association and treasurer for the South Carolina Infectious Diseases Society. Dr. Perez earned his medical degree from the University of Valencia School of Medicine in Valencia, Spain. He worked in Spain as an internal medicine physician before completing an internal medicine residency at Saint Francis Medical Center in Evanston, Illinois. He then completed an infectious diseases fellowship at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
