About Dr. Hewett
Dr. Hewett provides comprehensive cardiology services with specific interest in non-invasive imaging, coronary intervention, interventions in structural heart disease and adult congenital heart disease, and peripheral interventions, including carotid, renal and lower extremity interventions.
Board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, Dr. Hewett is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions.
Expertise
He specializes in the treatment of complex peripheral vascular disease, using the pedal approach to access veins through a patient’s foot instead of the groin.
He also performs complex percutaneous coronary intervention for patients who have significant disease and cannot have open heart surgery.
Background
Dr. Hewett graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, and earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. After completing his residency at the USC School of Medicine, he completed a cardiology fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, as well as fellowships in interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular intervention at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He most recently served as medical director of Coronary Care and Telemetry and chief of Cardiac Services at Palmetto Health Heart Hospital.
